大阪: 好きな食べ物は。。。

Okonomiyaki

Sometimes things got out of control during my time in Osaka. Imagine if you had a friend sign you up for some sort of underfunded camp where the recreational theme is food, where you begin to wonder if this friend may be in on a conspiracy with your parents to encourage your weight gain before the holidays. It was like that, and not only on Tuesdays, but what I mean is this went on every single day.

What follows is just a small sampling of my favorite foods consumed while in Osaka.

This pizza, which I believe was delivered from Heaven, is deserving of its own special mention.  Ready?  

Ingredients were as follows -

Side A: Corn, Ika (Squid), Roe Cream, Mochi, Potato and Bacon
Side B: Corn, Tuna Mayo, Onions, Anchovies

Uh huh....yaaaas :-)

Salvador tem dendê...

It's day 6 of the World Cup and I've already witnessed a couple things that I never imagined were possible:

1) Buying a same day ticket to São Paulo at a decent price after being issued invalid tickets (full refund in process)

2) Costa Rica beating Uruguay 3-1

3) Being threatened with a knife and managing to just walk away with nothing taken and no one hurt

4) Did I mention that Costa Rica beat Uruguay 3-1?

In the moments between these mini miracles, there was food. My favorite food place is Salvador, where the air carries a fragrance of palm oil and where most of the time lunch is a synonym for heaven in my mouth.

It's a Regular Street Food Heaven

Eating in north-eastern Brasil means that you will inevitably come to terms with the fact that you’re likely to end up with splatters of dendê oil on your shirt.  Azeite de dendê, that thick bright orange reddish coloured oil seems to be omnipresent in the cuisine...and I cannot seem to get enough of it!
